Lesson 2: Advanced Searching Techniques & Evaluating Websites

For this lesson, you need to read pages 160 - 161 of your text book. This section discusses the use of advanced search techniques such as boolean operators as well as methods you should use when evaluating websites. When you have read these pages, produce a word processed document which contains relevant images and is well formatted, which answers the assignment in Activity 9.4 below. At the end of your document, you must include screenshots showing the search terms and techniques you used to locate the information. You will assess your own work against the mark scheme later.

Activity 9.5: Evaluating internet sources

Although many people tend to believe everything they read on the internet, the truth is that there is a lot of material out there that is either untrue, deliberately false, inaccurate or based on opinion. It is important that you can evaluate the sources of information and discuss the reliability and trustworthiness of those sources.

You need to begin by reading pages 162 - 163 of your text book, and then complete activity 9.5. Guidance on how to complete this successfully is given below.
